13/01/2009 - New Travellers Camp sites - Hinckley and Bosworth

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council are considering sites for Travellers in the Borough. The government requires that more sites be found and the Borough requirement is for 55 pitches.

Two sites are proposed in our area, one on Thurlaston Lane, Earl Shilton opposite the Woodlands Trust site about half way between the new ring road and the turning before Watery Gate, and a second on the piece of waste ground on Stoke Road, Hinckley between The Dorothy Goodman Special School and the Milestone Public house.

Pitches are indefinite and can accommodate between 2 and 5 vans each.

If you are concerned about the impact on crime rates and consequently house prices of such a proposal, then you have an opportunity to do something about it.

Proposals will be launched at a meeting of the HBBC to be held at 6.30 on Tuesday 20th January at the Council Chamber, Hinckley. This is not a public meeting but a Council meeting and no-one other than Councillors may speak. But the public have a right to observe the meeting.

Once the proposals are launched there will be 6 weeks of consultation.

Concerns have been raised with our local MP, David Tredinnick. He has agreed to hold a meeting at the Plough Inn, Church Street, Earl Shilton on Friday 16th January at 2.00pm. I know this is a bad time for many of you but I hope we can make an effort to attend and impress on our MP the seriousness with which the proposals may be viewed.
